Tehran's support includes an estimated $US20 million ( million) in campaign funding for Shi'ite candidates, according to a State Department official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. He said the only significant question now was how close to Iran a new Iraqi government would lean.... However, others said the US would live with increased Iranian influence in Iraq. 'Once upon a time, it might have been America's worst nightmare that there was a religious fundamentalist government installed in Baghdad that had a close synergy with Iran,' Institute of Peace analyst Jonathan Morrow said.
