If it's automatic are those feelings of unrest, anger or discomfort immediate (i.e. emotion without a known foundation)? Or, do you connect to a root cause and if there is a cause can you explain it. When that image is modified so that the boy is no longer unrecognizable as a boy (i.e. wig) does that change or diminish those feelings?

| I'd have to say that seeing this brings to my mind images of punishment and humiliation. Throughout my "growing up" years the most degrading thing that could be done to a boy was to call him a girl or less than a man. My brother and I were threatened with "silk panties" when we were deemed too old to wet the bed. Being forced to wear girls red snow boots to school and then whipped in front of the school entrance made grades 1-6 a living hell.
I read not long ago at the SALON or similar website about a little boy who wanted to dress up and the mothers seeking advice on whether to ignore or forbid it. Can't remember the reply but it did show that times might be changing today and some segments of society may be a bit more accepting.
